In 2004, after 27 years at Storage Technology Corporation (StorageTek), Gary Francis founded InflectionPoint Strategies, Inc. InflectionPoint Strategies is a management consulting firm specializing in the high technology market with a focus on strategic planning, marketing strategies, business development and management.  Gary has 35 years of experience in the information technology industry.

 

At StorageTek, Gary was corporate vice president and general manager of the Automated Tape Solutions (ATS) business group.  The ATS business group had responsibility for over $1.5B in sales and service of StorageTek’s industry leading portfolio of tape drives, tape libraries, virtual tape systems and complementary software.

 

During his career at StorageTek, Gary held various management positions within the information systems organization, disk and tape product marketing and corporate strategic planning.  As the chief strategist, Gary was responsible for developing StorageTek’s corporate strategy encompassing product development, distribution, marketing, service, manufacturing, information systems and other key functional areas of the company.  Additional areas of management responsibility included sales, research and development, manufacturing and wafer fabrication.

 

Gary is an active participant with the Computer History Museum’s executive storage committee chartered to define significant storage milestones in the history of computing.  In 2004, he led a team of industry-wide experts within the Information Storage Industry Consortium (INSIC – a non-profit consortium comprised of universities, government organizations and storage industry vendors dedicated to the advancement of storage technology) resulting in the development of a 10-year application and system requirements roadmap for tape technology.  Gary also provides storage consulting to the Evaluator Group; a well known industry consulting group which develops comprehensive and objective analysis of storage hardware and software to end users and vendors.
